First and most important of all are the cards. How can you play poker without cards? Buy a deck from your favorite convenience store if you are in a hurry. Or rather, buy two decks so that while the first deck is at play, the other one is being shuffled. This will help you play poker faster, thus there will be more games of poker to be played. Be sure to get a deck that would last long. Take care of your cards by shuffling them properly and telling the players not to fold, scratch or mark the cards.

The next one is the poker table. Actually, any table will do, if you are not that choosy. However, if you want a table like those found in the casinos, buy one or make one. Remember that the poker table must have a center that can be reached by all that are playing at the poker game. You can also get a table top made of felt to imitate the poker tables in casinos. The felt cover makes it hard for the cards to just slide and it would not scratch them also.

Another item you should have are the poker chips. There are inexpensive chips available in the stores today. However if you really do not have much, you can eliminate the poker chips. You just have to place bets using real money.

You may also want to get lammers, which are indicators of the position. You can just make one for yourself. Get a jar cap and draw a letter D on top of it, to signify dealer. This is important to track who needs to post the blinds.

Another materials used in poker is the cut card, which is placed at the bottom of the card deck to prevent the poker players from seeing the bottom card. This is used in casinos, but in house poker games, you can just use the joker card from the deck.

Lastly, you may also want to get card protectors. They are anything that could stop your cards from flying or from flipping over. You may use your car keys or cellular phones as card protectors.
